The recent uprising of offset triple clamps for the KTM’s
has caused a lot of confusion on the part of the rider. I would like to give
some input regarding the buzz. First of all, I understand there are different
needs for different riders. Riding on the west coast is different than the
east coast and the east is unlike the high country of the mountains. I want
our customers to make the most educated decision for their particular level
and riding area. Changing the geometry of the bike, per say, should take
thoughtful consideration. Are you taking in account the whole picture?
Changing the offset to 18mm or 22mm is not going to
miraculously make your bike handle perfect, but it can definitely make a
difference.
Conditions like the east coast, the tight woods there, or
similar riding seem to like the 18’s. The 18’s steer quicker, and at the
same time create a twitchy less stable feeling, that some riders are able to
sacrifice for the quicker turning.
Other areas of the country that are more rocky, and higher
speed, demand more stability from the bike, hence the 22’s. The 22’s
create a different, positive turning and steering response. They do not impare
steering, they make it more predictable. They make the front end and back end
turn together and eliminate the knifing effect.
Whichever offset you choose, we offer them all, at the same
price. Therefore you can be assured that EMIG RACING wants you to have the
effect that is the most positive for you!
And in closing, EMIG RACING rides KTM’s, too. In fact,
that’s all we have. We have tested on our own 250 MXC, 300 EXC, 380 EXC, 400
EXC, and 520 EXC. In every condition: Motocross, Hare Scrambles, Enduro, and
